WHY DO I PRACTICE CRIMINAL DEFENSE?
While any criminal defense law firm can claim to provide exemplary legal services, the De Bruin Law Firm does not ask you to take our word for it. Greenville Business Magazine voted Aaron De Bruin one of Greenville’s “Elite Criminal Defense Attorneys” in 2013, 2015, and 2016. Whether Aaron’s client is accused of a low-level misdemeanor or major felony, he tenaciously advocates for their legal rights and fights for their future. Our criminal defense lawyers investigate the evidence against our clients and analyze law enforcement procedures to find weaknesses in the state’s case and violations of the rights of our client.
Aaron has been practicing law since 2008 with a significant portion of his practice devoted to the defense of those accused of crimes throughout South Carolina. However, his experience began even earlier while he was a prosecutor with the United States Marine Corp. During his time as a military prosecutor, he managed a heavy caseload involving a broad range of offenses. Our law firm brings an insider’s knowledge regarding the workings of law enforcement agencies and their tactics based on Aaron’s experience working closely with the Naval Criminal Investigative Service. This intimate knowledge allows Aaron to anticipate the strategies that law enforcement agencies will employ and guides his investigation when trying to identify improper conduct by police officers and detectives.
As a prosecutor with the military, Aaron oversaw a heavy caseload. He handled prosecutions from the initial pre-charge phase through the entire military tribunal process. His experience as a prosecutor in the military and criminal defense attorney in the criminal courts of South Carolina has led to his development of a focus on attention to detail, time management, and discipline in pursuit of the best outcome for his clients.
Aaron’s experience as a former prosecutor, coupled with his intense military litigation experience, has helped Aaron when representing his clients’ best interests. Aaron is a skilled negotiator who is able to obtain excellent results for his clients, whether it is a reduction of charges, a favorable plea deal, or even a dismissal of charges. Aaron is not afraid of the courtroom and will do whatever it takes to serve his clients. If a case goes to trial, Aaron is confident in the courtroom and is able to connect the evidence, the facts of the case, and applicable laws to make his arguments both compelling and easy for the jury to understand.
Aaron earned his Juris Doctor from Ohio Northern University, Claude W. Pettit College of Law in 2008. He was admitted to practice in South Carolina in 2008. For close to the last decade, Aaron has advocated for clients both inside and outside of South Carolina courtrooms. Aaron enjoys serving clients in Upstate South Carolina.
